The centre was started in 1937 in East Bengal (now Bangladesh) and shifted to its present premises in 1949. It was made a branch of Ramakrishna Math in December 2003.

Activities of the Math centre :

  1. A library with 4464 books and 13 periodicals and newspapers.

  1. A charitable homoeopathic dispensary, which treated 4143 cases
    during the year. One medical camp was organized for screening cleft-lip
    and cleft-palate patients (36 cases).

  1. A hostel with 57 students.

  1. Rendering services in reformatories (prisons) by providing moral
    education, conducting illiteracy eradication programmes, etc.

  1. Tele-education classes for poor students sponsored by
    Vivekananda University.

  1. Welfare work by way of providing blankets,clothes, pecuniary help,
    milk, etc. to the poor and needy.

  1. Celebration of the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother
    Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and other spiritual
    personalities, as also festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, etc.

  1. Regular classes and lectures in and outside the ashrama premises.

  1. Two vocational tailoring training centres for 112 girls.

  1. Activities of Mekhliganj sub-centre :
          1. A primary school with 161 students.
         

  1. A free coaching centre with 100 students.
