The centre was started in 1930 and made a branch of the Mission in 1934. It is a comprehensive educational institution, spread over an extensive plot of land on the Coimbatore-Ootacamund Road, 19 km from the town.

Activities of the Mission centre :

  1. An autonomous arts and science college, which offers degree,
    postgraduate, M.Phil and PhD courses (roll strength – 2071).

  1. A higher secondary school having 1435 students (of whom 229 were girls).
    Special coaching facilities are provided to them in certain sports and 
    games besides academic education.

  1. Three personality development camps (attended by 1420 students)
    and sevral value education programmes (attended by 4634 students)
    were organized.

  1. A residential high school with 263 students. Integrated education
    was provided to a few blind boys along with other students.

  1. A senior basic school having 430 students, of whom 163 were girls.

  1. An autonomous teachers’ training college offering BEd, MEd,
    MPhil and PhD courses. It had 177 students during the year. Its
    Extension Services Unit conducted one courses as in-service training
    during the year. The attached research department conducts
    educational research and publishes a quarterly journal.

  1. A residential secondary grade teachers’ training institute with
    43 students.

    International Human Resource Development Centre for the
    Disabled, which provided treatment (148 cases this year) and
    artificial limbs (62 persons this year) to the disabled. It has a
    research department which trains field workers and parents of
    the disabled children. The Faculty of Disability Management
    and Special Education under Vivekananda University, offered
    one-year diploma course in Sign-language Interpretation, two-year
    diploma and one-year BEd and MEd courses in Special Education
    in visual and hearing impairment and mental retardation, and two-
    year PhD research programme in Special Education.
  1. A college of physical education with 138 students. Its fitness
    centre had 1505 members. The Faculty of General and Adapted
    Physical Education and Yoga, attached to College of Physical
    Education, offered diploma, graduation and post-graduation
    degrees, besides offering MPhil and PhD research programmes,
    and add-on programmes in Special Olympics, Yoga and Fitness
    under Vivekananda University.

  1. An autonomous polytechnic, which offers three-year diploma courses
    in information technology and civil, mechanical and , mechanical, and
    electrical and electronics engineering. It had 775 students this year.

  1. An industrial training institute offering a two-year course in
    fitting, turning, draughtsmanship, motor mechanics and electrical
    wiring, and a one-year course in computer software. It registered
    401 students this year. Besides 523 unemployed youths were registered for skill
    training in CNC (Computer Numerical Control) operation, driving, masonry,
    bar-bending and machining, based on placement requests from industries.

  1. An industrial section, a key maintenance wing, which looks after
    the repair and maintenance needs of the various institutions of the
    Vidyalaya.

  1. A Printing Press to take care of almost all printing needs of the
    Vidyalaya.

  1. An institute of agriculture, which offers a two-year diploma course.
    It had 96 students during the year.

  1. Fourteen libraries of the Vidyalaya, which had 1,54,128 books and
    363 periodicals and newspapers.

  1. Twelve hostels with 2035 students.
