The ashrama was founded in 1899 under the inspiration of Swami Vivekananda. Situated in the solitude of deep Himalayan forests, it commands a magnificent view of the snow range covering some 380 km in length.

Activities of the Math centre :

  1. Editing of Prabuddha Bharata (Awakened India), an English
    monthly, founded by Swami Vivekananda.

  1. A library with 13,734 books.

  1. A 25-bed charitable hospital, which treated 200 inpatients and
    27,518 outpatients this year.

  1. A small guesthouse which provides an opportunity for spiritual
    culture to aspirants.

  1. Dairy and agriculture farming on a moderate scale.



Activities of the City/Town/Sub centre :

  1. Publication of books, mainly in English: 12 new and 151 reprints
    this year.

  1. Publication of the English monthly, Prabuddha Bharata (116th-
    117th year with 6752 subscribers).

  1. A library and a reading room with 27,227 books and 83
    newspapers and periodicals.

  1. Religious classes and public lectures in the premises and outside.

  1. Fortnightly distribution of foodstuff, clothes and so on to
    3784 persons, and monetary help to different individuals and
    institutions, amounting to Rs. 4,26,131 during the year.

  1. Weekly study circle for boys.
