The centre was started in 1920 and made a branch of the Mission in 1927.
Activities :
- Five high schools, (with Hindi and Bengali as mediums of instruction) with 589 boys and 760 girls. Two of these schools are for boys, two for girls, and one for both in separate shifts.
- Five English-medium high schools, with 1589 boys and 969 girls.
- Four middle schools (with Hindi and Bengali as mediums of instruction) with 516 boys and 542 girls.
- Two upper primary schools (with Hindi and Bengali as mediums of instruction) with 90 boys and 88 girls.
- One free non-formal school, with 168 children; and a centre of national open school.
- A free students' home with 63 students, particularly from backward communities of rural areas.
- Several school libraries with a total of 60,527 books, and book banks.
- A public library and a free reading room, with 6495 books, and 30 periodicals and dailies.
- Regular audio-visual shows using two 16-mm projectors.
- A mobile medical unit for poor people, which treated 8310 cases.
- Three charitable homoeopathic dispensaries in remote villages of Singhbhum district: 9398 cases treated.
- A free eye camp, in which 45 people were operated on for cataract.
- Religious activities included celebration of the birth anniversaries of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother, and Swamiji; Durga Puja, etc. Weekly classes and occasional lectures were conducted regularly.
