Started in 1897 by Swami Akhandananda (a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna), this is the oldest centre of the Ramakrishna Mission.
Activities :
- A high school with 625 boys.
- Three units of junior basic school with 542 boys and 179 girls.
- A residential junior basic teachers' training institute with 119 trainees.
- Three hostels with 196 students.
- Six free coaching centres with 515 students.
- Seven libraries with reading rooms: 15,022 books (5956 issued), 39 periodicals and newspapers.
- A charitable allopathic-cum-homoeopathic dispensary, which treated 18,403 cases (new 11,159) this year.
- A mobile medical unit, which treated 10,789 cases.
- Pecuniary and other help to the poor and needy.
- Religious activities: Daily worship and observance of the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna and other spiritual luminaries.
- Activities at Berhampore sub-centre (153, R. N. Tagore Road, Murshidabad District, PIN 742101):
- A students' home with 6 college students
- Weekly religious classes.
