A one-month summer camp for children : Porbandar centre

Porbandar centre conducted a one-month summer camp for children from 1 May to 2 June, in which 165 students from Class IV to VII took part. The programme included chanting, bhajans, meditation, moral lessons, classes on drawing, painting, etc.

Guwahati centre conducted a free medical camp

Guwahati centre conducted a free medical camp during Ambuvachi Mela near Kamakhya Temple from 22 to 24 June in which 2233 patients were treated.

Baranagar Mission School felicitated its seven former students

On 25 June, Baranagar Mission School felicitated its seven former students who had excelled in the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by West Bengal Higher Secondary Council this year.  The students were presented with mementos and books.

The following centres organized various programmes to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.  (Main programmes conducted by them are mentioned against their names.)

Bangalore: Spiritual retreat on 16 and 17 June, in which about 1200 devotees participated;

Baranagar Mission: Inter Ramakrishna Mission School Football Tournament from 21 to 25 June, in which 15 school teams took part;

Chengalpattu: Processions, bhajans and film shows on Swamiji at Naduvakkarai, Puliyur, Vitalapuram and Paiyambadi on 3, 16, 17 and 24 June respectively;

Guwahati: Quiz competitions on 30 May and 2 and 4 June, in which 143 students from three schools took part;

Hyderabad: On 20 June, several books on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam were released by Sri Jawhar Sircar, CEO, Prasar Bharati, and Swami Suhitanandaji, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission.  Swami Suhitanandaji presided over the meeting.

Itanagar: A two-day programme on 16 and 17 June, in which 218 school children and 240 devotees took part;

Salem: On 29 June, the centre launched ‘Salem District Swami Vivekananda Literary Competitions’ for school and college students.  The Ashrama will be distributing 1,00,000 books on Swamiji to various schools and colleges in the district free of cost for conducting these competitions.

Swamiji’s Ancestral House: On the centre’s initiative, two institutions, one at Pathuriaghata and the other at Garia, organized public meetings on 2 and 24 June on the relevance of Swamiji’s message in today’s context.  In all, about 900 persons attended the meetings.

The centre conducted a youth conference on 16 June, in which 250 youths and 100 observers took part.

Personalia : June 2012

Swami Atmasthanandaji, President, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, is keeping well at Belur Math.

Swami Gitanandaji, Vice-President, who was admitted to Seva Pratishthan hospital on 19 May, returned to Kankurgachhi Math (Kolkata) on 2 June.  He is under medical care.

Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President, is keeping well at Belur Math.  He will be visiting Baghbazar (Kolkata) from 15 to 23 July and Somsar (Dist. Bankura) from 24 to 29 July.

Swami Prabhanandaji, Vice-President, returned to Belur Math from Pune on 22 June.  He went to Baghbazar Math (Kolkata) on 27 June and is scheduled to return to Belur Math on 2 July.  He will be visiting Kamarpukur, Jayrambati and Antpur from 15 July to 2 August.
