Winter Relief

Winter Relief: 2470 blankets were distributed to poor people through the Headquarters (600) and the following centres: Agartala (300), Baranagar Math (20), Belgaum (200), Garbeta (200), Jalpaiguri (250), Ponnampet (500), Raipur (150), Silchar (250).

Besides, our Baranagar Math centre distributed 280 woollen chaddars to poor and needy people.

Distress Relief: The following centres distributed various items, shown in brackets, to needy people: Belgaum (250 saris), Medinipur (4630 kg rice, 463 kg dal, 463 kg mustard oil, 463 kg salt and 650 kg potatoes).

Flood Relief

Flood Relief: (i) Tamil Nadu: Torrential rains caused by the recent cyclonic depression in the Bay of Bengal led to floods in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu, affecting hundreds of families.  Our Chengalpattu centre served cooked food and distributed 145 saris, 145 lungis, 145 blankets, 145 mats and 145 sets of utensils (each set containing 1 frying pan, 2 cooking vessels, 1 filtering vessel, 1 rice basket, 1 plate, 1 bowl, 3 ladles, 2 tumblers, etc.) to 145 flood‑affected families in Puliyur village of the affected district.

Distress Relief

Distress Relief: The following centres distributed various items, shown in brackets, to needy people: Belgharia (1006 saris, 709 dhotis, 221 lungis, 805 shirts, 805 pants, 969 frocks, 158 sets of salwar & kamij, 20 woollen garments, 36 water bottles, 51 kg chira, 20 kg chhatu, 10 kg biscuits, 763 kg soap); Cooch Behar (371 saris, 37 dhotis and 4 lungis), Jalpaiguri (500 saris), Limbdi (food items to 704 poor families).

Fire Relief: West Bengal

Fire Relief: (a) West Bengal : Our Sarisha centre distributed 8 saris, 8 dhotis, 9 uttariyas, 5 mosquito-nets, 19 towels, 8 mats, 8 blankets and 8 plastic sheets to 5 families whose houses had been gutted by fire in Chakmanik village of South 24-Parganas district.

Saradapitha centre handed over 30 sets of school benches, 5 sets of chairs & tables, 10 fans and 1 computer to a school at Banipur in Howrah district which had been destroyed by fire.

(b) Odisha:  Our Puri Mission centre served cooked food (rice and dalma) for 5 days and distributed the following items to 11 families whose houses had been destroyed by fire in Old Sadar Thana Road and Kacheri Road areas in Puri town: 11 blankets, 12 saris, 15 dhotis, 11 towels, 11 mosquito‑nets, 15 sets of garments, 11 mats and 11  sets of utensils (each set containing 1 bucket, 1 degchi, 1 karai, 1 ladle, 2 plates, 2 bowls, 2 spoons and 2 tumblers).

Flood Relief : West Bengal

Flood Relief: (a) West Bengal: Continuing its flood relief operations, our Sikra Kulingram centre further distributed 250 kg chira, 1450 saris, 200 dhotis, 1250 lungis, 1250 blankets, 125 kg bleaching powder and 1100 kg lime among the victims in Charghat, Gobardanga and Saguna blocks of North 24‑Parganas district.

Saradapitha centre distributed 1000 blankets to flood-affected people of Amta-II and Bagnan blocks in Howrah district.

(b) Uttar Pradesh: Our Lucknow centre distributed clothing to 221 children in the flood-affected areas near Ayodhya in the month of October.

Earthquake Relief : West Bengal

Earthquake Relief: West Bengal: In the wake of the devastating earthquake on 18 September, hundreds of people lost their lives while many suffered the loss of property in Sikkim, West Bengal and other surrounding states.  Our Saradapitha centre distributed the following items among 122 affected families in 6 villages of Kurseong, Kalimpong, Debagram Fulbari and Siliguri areas in West Bengal from 22 September to 11 October:  1470 kg rice, 294 kg dal (lentils), 162 kg sugar, 40 kg mustard oil, 1.5 kg milk powder, 50 packets of biscuits and 720 one-litre water bottles.

Distress Relief: The following centres distributed various items, shown in brackets, to needy people: Agartala (614 saris, 100 dhotis and 307 sets of children’s garments), Garbeta (75 saris, 11 dhotis, 20 lungis, 60 shirts, 20 pants, 64 frocks, 25 vests, 10 churidars and 35 children’s garments), Guwahati (350 saris and 25 dhotis), Karimganj (255 saris and 145 dhotis), Purulia (3200 kg chira, 309 kg gur and 1450 kg sugar), Taki (83 saris, 7 dhotis, 90 nail-cutters, 90 soap-bars and 90 tongue-cleaners).

Rehabilitation:   Karnataka:  166 houses built by our Mysore centre for poor tribal people at Chamrajnagar district, in collaboration with the Government of Karnataka, were formally handed over to the beneficiaries in August 2011.

Flood Relief : October 2011

Flood Relief: Odisha: Our Puri Mission centre continued its primary relief work among the flood‑affected people in Puri district. The centre distributed 9905 kg chira, 608 kg sugar, 150 kg biscuits, 43 kg milk powder and 1500 candles among 2480 flood-affected families of 29 villages in Gop, Kanas and Delanga blocks of Puri district.

West Bengal: Our Naora centre distributed 2720 saris, 1000 dhotis and 100 chaddars to 3720 flood-affected people of 16 villages in South 24-Parganas district.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation : West Bengal: 16 houses built by our Purulia centre for poor people at Jhalda, Purulia district, in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal, were formally handed over to the beneficiaries on 5 September.

Distress Relief: The following centres distributed various items, shown in brackets, to needy people: Baranagar Math, Kolkata (430 saris, 40 dhotis and 180 children’s garments), Belgharia, Kolkata (3532 saris, 2688 dhotis, 203 lungis, 2717 shirts, 2592 pants, 1050 frocks, 1382 salwar-kamij [women’s garments], 1469 woollen garments and 2408 blankets among 2245 poor families in 6 blocks of Hooghly, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Medinipur and Purulia districts), Jalpaiguri (500 saris and 200 children’s garments), Nagpur (1011 school uniforms, 3033 notebooks and 1011 pens to 1011 needy students of 22 schools), Naora (140 saris, 400 lungis and 265 children’s garments), Rajkot (3000 kg wheat flour, 1500 kg khichudi [cooked food], 150 kg edible oil, 75 kg spices, 150 kg sugar, 30 kg tea and 300 chaddars among families affected by heavy rainfall in Bhuj district), Silchar (912 dhotis and 1189 saris), Vrindaban (800 kg rice, 800 kg wheat flour, 400 kg salt, 200 kg mustard oil, 200 kg dal and 100 kg sugar).

Flood Relief: Odisha & West Bengal

Flood Relief: Odisha: Heavy, incessant rains in some parts of Odisha in the month of September caused widespread floods, affecting thousands of families in the State.  Our three branch centres in Odisha conducted primary relief work among flood-affected families.  Details of relief operations are given below.

(a)  Bhubaneswar centre distributed 13,255 kg chattu (gram flour) and 5663 kg biscuits among 9200 flood-affected families of 48 villages in 6 blocks of Jajpur and Cuttack districts.

(b) Puri Math centre distributed 3500 kg chira (rice flakes), 175 kg gur (molasses), 70 kg milk powder, biscuits, soap-bars, detergent powder, 1400 mosquito-coils, etc among 700 flood-affected families of Satyabadi and Puri Sadar blocks in Puri district.

(c)  Puri Mission centre distributed 14,795 kg chira, 892 kg sugar, 250 kg biscuits, 84 kg milk powder, 2544 candles and 1800 matchboxes among 2959 flood-affected families of 30 villages in Gop and Delanga blocks of Puri district.

West Bengal: (a) Our Malda centre continued its primary relief work among the flood-affected people in Malda district. The centre distributed 6100 kg rice, 731 kg dal (pulses), 1024 kg biscuits, 6716 kg chira, 3500 kg salt, 548 kg edible oil, 1636 kg milk powder, 2300 kg potatoes, 920 saris, 230 dhotis and 257 lungis among 352 flood-affected families of 12 villages in Ratua and Harishchandrapur blocks of the district.

(b) Swamiji’s Ancestral House & Cultural Centre, Kolkata, distributed 200 saris and 200 dhotis to flood-affected people of Athpur and Manipur villages in Sandeshkhali-II block of North 24-Parganas district.

 

Flood Relief : August 2011

West Bengal:In the wake of the widespread floods caused by incessant rains and releasing of water by Damodar Valley Corporation, nine of our branch centres in West Bengal conducted primary relief work among flood-affected families in nearby areas.  Details of the relief operations are given below.

(a) Antpur centre distributed 36,018 kg chira, 3500 kg sugar, 10,200 packets of biscuits and 1 lakh halogen tablets among 21,840 flood-affected families of Jangipara block in Hooghly district and Amta-II and Udaynarayanpur blocks in Howrah district from 14 to 17 August.

(b) Belgharia centre distributed 29,960 kg chira, 3200 kg sugar and 3,40,000 halogen tablets among 3210 flood-affected families of 20 villages at Daspur-I and Daspur-II blocks in Paschim Medinipur district in the month of August.

(c) Ichapur centre distributed 40,000 kg chira and 3500 kg sugar among 25,648 flood‑affected families of 46 villages in Khanakul-II block of Hooghly district from 16 to 22 August.

(d) Malda centre distributed 7384 kg chira, 3345 kg sugar, 669 kg dal and 225 kg milk powder among 669 flood-affected families of 14 villages at Ratua and Harishchandrapur blocks in Malda district from 13 to 20 August.

(e) Medinipur centre distributed 14,000 kg chira, 3000 kg sugar and 2500 packets of biscuits among 2794 flood-affected families of Maligram, Gobardhanpur, Bagnabar and Jalchak anchals under Pingla block in Paschim Medinipur district on 21 August.

(f) Naora centre distrbuted 10,000 kg chira and 1000 kg sugar among 2920 flood-affected families of 23 villages in North and South 24-Parganas districts from 14 to 17 August.  The centre also served cooked food to 80 affected families of Tabla-Kushangra village in South 24‑Parganas district for 5 days (from 15 to 19 August).  

(g) Saradapitha centre distributed 1000 kg rice, 25,000 kg chira, 2500 kg sugar, 29 cartons of biscuits and 2 lakh halogen tablets among 5678 flood-affected families of Udaynarayanpur and Amta-II blocks in Howrah district from 16 to 21 August.

(h) Sargachhi centre conducted the following relief operations in 4 blocks of Murshidabad district in the month of August: (i) distributed 650 kg chira, 350 kg sugar, 839 packets of biscuits, 5 bags of bleaching powder and 1,90,000 halogen tablets among 2314 flood victims, (ii) served cooked food (khichuri) to 9267 affected persons of 14 villages, and (iii) distributed 1474 saris, 1366 lungis and 225 dhotis to needy people in 10 villages.

(i) Sikra-Kulingram centre distributed 4250 kg chira, 1437 kg sugar, 6000 packets of biscuits and two lakh halogen tablets among 1161 flood-affected families of 16 villages under Swarup Nagar and Baduria blocks in North 24-Parganas district from 11 to 15 August.

Distress Relief : August 2011

 

The following centres distributed various items, shown in brackets, to needy people:

Baghbazar (2000 saris, 106 shirts and 118 frocks),  Belgharia (200 kg chira, 250 kg rice, 50 kg dal, 10 kg salt and 21 poly water-tanks of 1000 liter capacity), Limbdi (1875 kg of dry dole to 150 poor people of Limbdi town), Porbandar (3754 notebooks and 172 sets of textbooks among 686 needy students), Purulia (2000 kg chira, 300 kg gur and 600 kg sugar to 400 poor and needy people of Purulia-II and Puncha blocks in Purulia district).
 Baghbazar centre also served meals to 21 poor persons of a nearby slum daily in the month of July.

Panchkula, Haryana), Limbdi (school uniforms to 195 needy students on 7 July), Ulsoor (75,000 notebooks, 3000 dictionaries, 1700 slates, 2000 geometry boxes, 14,000 pencils, 14,000 erasers, 14,000 pencil sharpeners and 12,000 pens to 15,130 students of 163 schools and coaching centres at 131 villages in Karnataka from 8 June to 6 July).

Fire Relief

Fire Relief: Our Chengalpattu centre distributed 25 kg rice, cooking utensils and hut-building materials to 10 families whose huts had been gutted by fire near Thirukkalukkundram. 

Storm Relief

Storm Relief: West Bengal: Our Chandipur Math conducted the following relief operations among 7 families belonging to 4 villages of Egra subdivision in Purba Medinipur district whose houses had been destroyed by a recent storm:  (a) Provided 44 asbestos sheets, 760 roof tiles, 155 matkas and 880 bundles of straw to the affected families; (b) reconstructed the damaged wall of the house of one affected family; (c) supplied 82 kg rice, 9 kg dal, 8 kg mustard oil, 100 kg potatoes, 18 kg other vegetables, 3 kg spices, 4 kg salt, and children garments to 2 worst-affected families.

Flood Relief

Flood Relief : West Bengal: Continuing its relief operations among the victims of the recent flood, our Belgharia centre distributed 32,125 kg chira, 3200 kg sugar, 1786 packets of biscuits, 10,000 halogen tablets and 164 kg cornflakes to 20,273 persons of 21 villages in Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur districts this month.

Earthquake and Tsunami Relief : Japan

Our Japan centre continued relief work among the victims of the massive earthquake and ensuing tsunami which had hit the northeast coast of Japan on 11 March.  In the third phase, the centre supplied the following items to the victims through various official agencies:

Flood Relief: June 2011

Flood Relief: West Bengal: The recent incessant rain caused flood in some parts of West Bengal.

(a) Our Belgharia centre distributed 11,016 kg chira, 1102 kg sugar, 48,960 biscuits, 122 kg corn flakes, 2,44,800 halogen tablets, 150 kg bleaching powder and 60 kg lime to 1224 flood-affected families belonging to five villages of Daspur-I block in Paschim Medinipur district.

(b) Our Narendrapur centre distributed 205 tarpaulin sheets, 511 home kits (each kit containing soap bars, cotton cloth, nylon cord, bucket, candles, etc), 2385 jerrycans, 9850 ORS packets and 1,25,200 NaDCC / Chlorine tablets among 6980 flood-affected families belonging to 53 villages of 8 blocks in Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur districts.

Distress Relief: Our Rahara centre distributed 9000 kg rice, 3600 kg dal, 118 kg mustard oil and 75 kg salt to 1517 poor and needy families.

Fire Relief: June 2011

Fire Relief: Our Rahara centre distributed 1000 kg rice, 75 kg dal, 75 kg mustard oil, 75 kg salt, 15 mats, 15 bed-sheets, 15 mosquito-nets and 4 kg milk powder to 15 families whose houses were gutted by fire in Bajarberia village of South 24 Parganas district.  The centre also distributed 2 kg mustard oil, 1 mat, 1 bed-sheet and 1 mosquito-net to a family in Sandeshkhali block of North 24 Parganas district whose house was gutted by fire.

Earthquake & Tsunami Relief: Japan: Our Japan centre continued its relief work among the victims of the recent earthquake and the ensuing tsunami.  In the second phase, the centre distributed vegetables, fruits and stationery items to the evacuees at Izumi Kominkan Shelter in Izumi City and Nihon Univa Volunteer Centre in Iwaki City.

Drought Relief: Limbdi centre

Drought Relief: Under ‘Sri Ramakrishna Jaladhara Project’, our Limbdi centre completed de-silting and deepening of three ponds in Surendranagar district this month (May 2011), thus making the total number of such ponds 60 in the last nine years.

Rehabilitation: Gujarat

Rehabilitation: Gujarat: A school building and a vocational training centre building at Parevada village (30 km from Rajkot city) constructed by our Rajkot centre for the Madari (snake charmers) community were inaugurated on 28 May.

Rehabilitation : Karnataka

Rehabilitation: Karnataka: A total of 216 houses built for the victims of October 2009 flood were handed over to the beneficiaries this month (May 2011).  The details are given below:

(a) 143 houses, jointly built by our Belgaum and Mysore centres in Sindhanur taluk of Raichur district, were handed over to the beneficiaries on 27 May.  Each beneficiary family was also given a kit containing 2 cooking vessels, 5 plates, 5 cups, 5 spoons, 1 knife, 1 ladle and 3 bed-sheets.

(b) 70 houses built by our Belgaum centre in Beeranagaddi, Gokak taluk, Belgaum district, were handed over to the beneficiaries on 29 May.

(c) 3 houses constructed by our Belgaum centre in and around Belgaum were handed over to the beneficiaries this month (May 2011).

 

Rehabilitation : April 2011

Rehabilitation: Gujarat: (a) On 12 March, a four-room school building at Dhaneti village in Kutch constructed by our Rajkot centre was inaugurated and handed over to Sri Ramakrishna Seva Samiti, Dhaneti.

(b) Sixty houses at Parevada village in Rajkot district built by our Rajkot centre for Madari (snake-charmers) community, in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat, were handed over to the beneficiaries on 13 March.
