The newly constructed building for kitchen and dining-hall
at Coimbatore Math was inaugurated on 30 November.
With the initiative taken by
Delhi
Ashrama, a 10 ft x 10 ft painting on the theme Harmony of
Religions, depicting Sri Ramakrishna as the central
figure, was installed at Ramakrishna Ashram Marg Metro Railway
Station, New Delhi, on 5 November. The saying “As many
faiths so many paths” is inscribed on either side of the
painting, both in English and Hindi.
Swami Vivekananda Mandapam and the Sabhanganam at the new
campus of Kadapa centre were inaugurated on 2 December.

Sri Pradip Majhi, an ex-student of Narendrapur Blind
Boys’ Academy, won the National Award for the Empowerment
of Persons with Disabilities, 2007, for his outstanding
performance as the most efficient self-employed person.
Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil, President of India, handed
over the award to him at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 3 December,
the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. On
the same day, Sri Bhabesh Barman and Sri Deb Kumar Maity,
ex-students of the Blind Boys’ Academy, received the State
Awards for the year 2007 from Sri Gopalkrishna Gandhi,
Governor of West Bengal, in recognition of their outstanding
performance as the most efficient self‑employed persons.
On 10 December, Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President,
Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated the
newly built first floor of the students’ home at Cooch
Behar centre and laid the foundation stones for the
Ashrama’s main gate and the building for accommodating
senior guest monks.
The newly constructed first floor of Ramharipur high
school building was inaugurated on 12 December.
Two students of the Department of Sanskrit Studies,
Vivekananda University, namely Vivek Karmakar and
Prasenjit Roy, won the first and third prizes respectively
in the All India Elocution Competition on Swami Vivekananda
in Sanskrit held at the Institute of Culture, Gol Park,
Kolkata, on 13 December.

We are
sorry to announce the passing away of Swami
Swaranandaji (Kochukrishnan Maharaj) on 28 December
at 4.50 am at KMM Clinic, Thrissur. He was 84 and
had been suffering from ischemic heart disease, renal
dysfunction, hypertension, etc for some years. An
initiated disciple of Swami Virajanandaji, he joined the
Order at Thrissur centre in 1946 and continued there
till the last. He had Sannyasa from Swami
Shankaranandaji in 1956. He had been leading a
retired life at Thrissur centre for about seventeen
years. The Swami was simple, hardworking and
jovial by nature.
