Swami Atmasthanandaji, President, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, was admitted to Seva Pratishthan on 13 February for cataract operation.  After successful surgery, he returned to Belur Math on 18 February.  He is scheduled to visit Mumbai, Coimbatore, Varanasi and Allahabad from 22 March to 11 April.  He is keeping well. 

Swami Gitanandaji, Vice-President, will be visiting Balaram Mandir (Kolkata) from 24 to 29 March.  He is in good health. 

Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President, is scheduled to visit Cossipore (Kolkata) from 2 to 5 March, and Malda, Balurghat, Raiganj, Siliguri, Chowdhurihat and Cooch Behar from 13 March to 5 April.  He is keeping well.

News of Branch Centres : INDIA


Allahabad centre organized a medical camp, discourses, and an exhibition on Sri Ramakrishna and Swamiji at Triveni Sangam on the occasion of Magh Mela from 20 January to 21 February.  About 16,000 patients were treated at the medical camp and nearly 80,000 people witnessed the exhibition.

Narendrapur Vidyalaya held a six-day function from 23 to 28 January in connection with its golden jubilee.  Swami Prabhanandaji, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, released a commemorative volume and presided over the meeting on 27 January.  He also distributed prizes to the students for their various achievements.  Cultural programmes were organized on all the six days. 

Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated the newly built Vivekananda Vidya Vihar (a building for school and other service activities for the poor and the youth) at Sitanagaram campus of Vijayawada centre on 14 February. 

An additional operation theatre of Sarada Netralaya at Patna centre was inaugurated on 16 February.

Asansol centre has developed a piece of land at the junction of National Highway-2 and Vivekananda Sarani (formerly Kanyapur Link Road) into a park and installed there a 13-foot bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda.  The park and the statue were inaugurated on 19 February.

The first floor of the Shilpa Vidyalaya building of Tamluk centre was inaugurated on 19 February.

Foundation stone for the proposed new temple at Ponnampet centre was laid on 24 February.

Arnab Rudra, a student of BSc 1st Year Physics (Honours) of Vidyamandira (Saradapitha, Belur), was awarded Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Scholarship, 2007, and Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana National Science Fellowship, 2007.

Five students of Class XI of our Viveknagar (Tripura) school, namely Sarjick Bakshi, Satrajit Das, Laksabir Debnath, Saptarshi Saha and Annek Roy Choudhury, were awarded Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search Junior Scholarship, 2007.

National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) conducts Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) every year and invites the top 35 INMO certificate awardees to International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) for preparing them to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).  Chitradeep Gupta, a student of Class X of our Viveknagar (Tripura) school, is the only student from the entire North Eastern Region selected for the IMOTC this year.

Swami Nirantaranandaji, who has been posted to Gretz (France) centre as an Assistant Minister, reached there on 1 February.

Swami Dayatmanandaji, head of Bourne End (UK) centre, reached Delhi on 9 February on a three-week visit to India.

Swami Amaranandaji returned to Geneva (Switzerland) after a three-week visit to India.

Obituary

 

  We are sorry to announce the passing away of Swami Darshananandaji (Prangopal Maharaj) on 5 February at 7.55 am at Belur Math.  He was 88, and had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Parkinson’s disease and kidney problem for some years.  Although he had been serving at Contai centre since 1946, he joined the Order in 1953.  He had Sannyasa from Swami Vishuddhanandaji in 1962.  Besides his joining centre, he served at Purulia Vidyapith and Belur Math.  He had been leading a retired life at Belur Math for the last 14 years.  The Swami was hard-working by nature.
