Obituaries

We are sorry to announce the passing away of two of our brother-monks during the last month.

Swami Trilokeshanandaji (Manindra Maharaj) passed away on 24 June at 3.40 pm at Belur Math.  He was 78 and had been suffering from hypertension, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, etc for some years.  An initiated disciple of Swami Vishuddhanandaji, he joined the Order at Malda centre in 1953 and had Sannyasa from Swami Madhavanandaji in 1963.  Besides his joining centre, he served at Almora, Shyamla Tal, Rajkot, Baghbazar and Mumbai centres.  He had been leading a retired life at Belur Math for the last three months.  Simple, affable and sweet-natured, the Swami endeared himself to all those who came in contact with him.

Swami Shuddharupanandaji (Prakash Maharaj), head of Jaipur centre, expired suddenly on 26 June at about 9.45 pm at Jaipur centre owing to massive heart attack.  He was 65 and had been suffering from hypertension and diabetes for some years.  Initiated by Swami Vireshwaranandaji, he joined the Order at Rajkot Math in 1973 and had Sannyasa from his Guru in 1984.  He served at Rajkot centre for 6 years, Belur Math construction department for 22 years, Vedanta Society, New York, for a short period, and Jaipur centre for 4 years.  He was the head of Jaipur centre for one year.  He actively participated in the flood rehabilitation project at Arambag (Dist. Hooghly) in 1979-80.  A well-trained and experienced engineer, he supervised the construction of several buildings in Belur Math and in some other centres such as Rajkot, Contai and Seva Pratishthan.  The Swami was hard-working and jovial by nature.
