1.   Cyclone Sidr Relief: Bangladesh: Our Dhaka centre continued extensive relief operations for thousands of cyclone victims. During this month, it distributed 1,17,500 kg rice, 200 sets of utensils, 1491 saris, 1353 lungis, 780 other garments, 15,029 blankets and 36 hurricane lamps to 29,613 cyclone-affected families of Bagerhat, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Gopalganj, Khulna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur and Satkhira districts.  Besides, a tube-well each was sunk in three villages of Barguna district.  The relief work is continuing.

2. Winter Relief: 16,649 blankets were distributed through the following centres to poor people affected by the severity of winter: Aalo - 2175, Agartala - 200, Belgaum - 200, Belgharia - 499, Cherrapunji - 2000, Garbeta - 100, Gol Park - 500, Limbdi - 150, Patna - 4000, Puri Mission - 2000, Purulia - 1000, Rajkot - 95, Ramharipur  - 1500, Saradapitha - 300, Sargachhi - 900, Shyamla Tal - 30, Vrindaban - 1000.

Besides, the following centres distributed winter garments, as shown in brackets: Limbdi (150 sweaters), Rajkot (54 sweaters), Ramharipur (200 shawls), Shyamla Tal (sweaters, mufflers and caps to 300 school children).

 


 

3. Fire Relief: Karimganj centre provided G.I. sheets, bamboos and other necessary items to rebuild a house which had been ravaged by devastating fire in Karimganj.

 

4.   Flood Relief: The following post-flood-relief operations were conducted by our centres:

      (a) Bihar: (i) Muzaffarpur centre treated 2076 patients of 10 villages in Muzaffarpur, Saran and Vaishali districts.

      (ii) Patna centre distributed 3431 blankets and 364 assorted garments to needy people of 6 blocks in Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur districts.

 

 

 
 

 

 

      (b) West Bengal: Belgharia centre distributed 1890 biscuit packets, 1248 saris, 1505 dhotis, 1338 shirts, 1464 frocks, etc to 3290 poor flood victims of six blocks in North 24‑Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur districts, and Belgharia in Kolkata.  The relief work is continuing.

 

 

5. Medical Relief: West Bengal Gangasagar Mela: As in the previous years, this year also Seva Pratishthan organized a round-the-clock medical relief camp during Makar Sankranti Mela at Sagar Island in South 24‑Parganas district from 10 to 15 January.  A total of 4402 patients were treated, out of which 34 received indoor medical care.  Besides, 125 blankets were distributed to poor pilgrims and monks.  Manasadwip centre arranged board and lodging facilities for 850 pilgrims at residential camps in the Mela area and the Ashrama.

 

6. Distress Relief: The following centres distributed various items, as shown in brackets, to poor and needy persons of nearby areas: Aalo (1649 mosquito-nets), Belgaum (500 saris), Chandigarh (151 garments), Patna (4000 saris, 4000 dhotis and 20,000 other garments), Ramharipur (2000 saris and dhotis, and 250 sets of children’s garments), Ulsoor (2000 saris).
