   Vivekananda University held its fifth foundation anniversary celebration and the annual convocation at its Belur campus on 4 July.  Professor ECG Sudarshan, former Director of the Centre for Particle Theory at Austin and presently Professor of Physics at the University of Texas at Austin, USA, was the Guest-in-Chief and delivered the convocation address. Professor G Bhamathi, former Professor of Physics, University of Madras, Chennai, was the Guest of Honour and gave away the prizes to meritorious candidates.  Swami Prabhanandaji, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, who is also the Chancellor of the University, presided over the meeting and gave away the certificates, degrees and diplomas to the students who have successfully graduated from the Belur and Narendrapur campuses of the University. 

     Guwahati centre conducted a medical camp during Ambuvachi Mela at Kamakhya Dham on 22 and 23 June in which 650 patients were treated. 




   Cherrapunji centre organized 14 health awareness camps in different parts of Meghalaya from October 2009 to March 2010




   Swami Prameyanandaji, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated the newly built students’ home building at Shillong Ashrama on 3 July.

  The newly set-up physiotherapy unit at Kanpur dispensary was inaugurated on 4 July.

   Puri Mission Ashrama served lemonade and drinking water to about 31,000 pilgrims during the Ratha Yatra festival and treated 142 patients in the medical camp organized on this occasion.  The centre also served lemonade to about 800 pedestrians per day throughout the summer season.



Japan centre organized the concluding phase of its golden jubilee celebrations from 26 to 30 May with an exhibition, a public meeting and a cultural programme.  Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, and several other dignitaries addressed the meeting, which was attended by about 600 persons. 
 

   Chennai Math conducted a three-day All Tamil Nadu Youth Retreat from 8 to 10 June in which 225 young men participated.

    Swami Prabhanandaji, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated the newly constructed western wing of the Higher Secondary school building at Cherrapunji centre on 11 June.

Foundation Day of the Ramakrishna Mission was celebrated at Belur Math on 1 May.  Swami Atmasthanandaji, President, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, chaired the meeting and released a commemorative volume on Ramakrishna Mission and a booklet on Ramakrishna Mission’s relief services. Swami Smarananandaji and Swami Prameyanandaji, Vice-Presidents of the Math & Mission, Swami Prabhanandaji, General Secretary, Swami Suhitanandaji, Assistant Secretary, and two lay members of the Mission addressed the gathering.  In all, 325 monastics, 46 lay members, 51 associates and about 250 devotees attended the programme.

 

 

      On 6 May, the Government of Delhi State organized a function in connection with the launching of their new website on Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP), in which Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi, presented a memento to our Delhi centre for its outstanding service in the area of TB control.  On 21 May, the centre organized an interfaith seminar on “A Tobacco-free Mankind” in which several religious leaders participated.

   Dr D Y Patil, Governor of Tripura, visited Viveknagar (Tripura) centre on 12 May.

 
 

   The anthropological museum at Cherrapunjee centre was inaugurated on 27 May.

   The newly set-up Critical Care Unit at Thiruvananthapuram hospital was inaugurated on 5 May.

   On the occasion of Purna Kumbha Mela, Kankhal centre made arrangements for the stay of monks and devotees for the three Shahi Snans(important baths) on 12 February (Shiva Ratri), 15 March (Somavati Amavasya) and 14 April (Vaishakhi).  A big camp was put up at the Ashrama premises from 10 to 16 April for the Pramukh Shahi Snan (the most important bath) on 14 April.  In all, nearly 2500 devotees and more than 400 monks were accommodated at the Ashrama premises.  Discourses and cultural programmes were organized from 10 to 16 April and a commemorative volume was released on the 12th. 


    Sri Mukul Mudgal, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Courts, and Sri Shivraj Patil, Governor of Punjab, visited Chandigarh centre on 2 and 4 April respectively in connection with the annual celebrations of the Ashrama.


      Sri M O H Farook, Governor of Jharkhand, inaugurated the first floor of Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra building housing classrooms and a conference hall at Ranchi Morabadi Ashrama on 14 April. ]]> Relief News : July 2010 http://www.belurmath.org/relief_news_archives/relief_june2010.htm (a) Gujarat: Porbandar centre distributed 5402 notebooks, 1007 textbooks, etc to 1289 poor students in and around Porbandar.

 

 

     (b) Karnataka: Ulsoor Math distributed 80,000 notebooks, 13,000 pens, 15,000 pencils, 15,000 erasers, 15,000 pencil sharpeners, 5500 geometry boxes and 2000 slates to 15,497 students of 110 schools and 20 coaching centres in 105 villages of Karnataka.
